# Celtic Cross Tarot Reading from a Photo

THภาษาไทยENEnglish
// Tools · Tarot · Photo

For readers who shuffle and lay out real cards. Photograph the spread, tap twice to pin all ten positions, name each card and the way it lies, then read it with the same interpretation engine as the Celtic Cross tarot reader. The photo stays in your browser.

## Read your own spread from a photo

This page needs JavaScript to show the photo, place the pins and read the cards.

What this page does

- Your real cards. Shuffle, cut and lay out the cards on the table as usual, then take a photo or choose one from your device.

- Card names float over the real cards. Tap the centre of the cross and card 10; the page pins the other eight positions and labels each card on the photo.

- No more doubt about card 2. You only say whether its head points left or right; the page reads it by the rule you chose.

- See the connections. Lines join positions that are read as pairs and show their elemental relationship, before the full reading of elements, zodiac, numbers and the Key of Life.

## Taking a photo that works

- Lay the cards on a plain cloth or table with a little space between them, except card 2, which crosses card 1 as usual.

- Hold the phone parallel to the table and shoot straight down with all ten cards in the frame, in even light and without the shadow of your hand.

- Shoot from any side: pinning works out the rotation from the points you tap. If the whole spread faces the querent, tick “Photo taken from the querent's side” to invert every card.

- If your layout is spaced differently from the standard diagram, a pin may land off its card. Drag it onto the right card.

## Is card 2 reversed? Reading the direction of the crossing card

Card 2 of the Celtic Cross lies across card 1 and stands for the force that crosses your situation. A card lying on its side has no built-in “upright” or “reversed”, so a rule has to decide. Books and traditions differ; three rules are common.

- Always upright. The crossing card is already the obstacle, so no reversed meaning is layered on top.

- Head left = upright. If the head points toward card 4 (the past) it is upright; toward card 6 it is reversed.

- Head right = upright. The opposite of the previous rule.

This page keeps what you see apart from how it is read. You record only the fact on the table, which way the head points, and the page applies your rule. The diagram turns card 2 so its head points the same way as the real card. If you change the rule later, the recorded direction stays and the reading follows at once.

The head is the top edge of the picture, where the figure's head and the sky are. On Rider–Waite style cards the number sits at the top and the title banner at the bottom.

## Lines in the spread: paired positions and elemental dignities

The Celtic Cross can be read in pairs. The diagram draws the pairs used most often and colours each line by the Golden Dawn elemental dignity of the two cards.

- 1–2 the heart of the matter and what crosses it · 3–5 root and crown · 4–6 the recent past flowing into the near future

- 1–10 from situation to outcome · 5–10 what you aim for against where things are heading

- 7–8 how you see yourself against how others see you · 7–9 your stance and your hopes and fears · 9–10 hopes and fears shaping the outcome

The same element strengthens (thick gold line). Fire with Air and Water with Earth are friendly and support each other (green). Fire with Water and Air with Earth are contrary and weaken each other (red dashes). Other pairs are neutral (dotted). Major Arcana take the element of their sign or planet. The full reading explains every pair again, together with signs, planets, numbers and the Key of Life on the Tree of Life.

## How two taps place all ten pins

The standard Celtic Cross diagram already gives every position a coordinate. A photo differs from it only by a shift, a rotation and a scale, and one complex number captures all three. With $z$ a point on the diagram and $w$ the same point on the photo,

$$w = A + a\,(z - z_A), \qquad a = \frac{B - A}{z_B - z_A}$$

where $z_A$ is the centre of the cross, $z_B$ the centre of card 10, and $A$, $B$ the two points you tap. The modulus of $a$ is the scale and its argument is the angle the photo is turned by. Putting the other eight diagram coordinates through the same formula gives their pins on the photo.

## Before you use it

This page does not read card names from the photo; you name the cards and their directions, and the photo lets you check them against the table. Your photo, question and birth date are never sent anywhere. Only the card names, directions and card 2 rule are kept on your device.

There is no scientific evidence that tarot predicts the future. Use the reading as a tool for reflection, never in place of medical, legal or financial advice. No cards to hand? The Celtic Cross tarot reader shuffles a deck for you in the browser.

## Frequently asked questions

Is my photo uploaded anywhere?
No. The photo is opened in your browser only; the page never sends the photo, your question or your birth date anywhere. Close the page or tap Remove photo and it is gone. The only things kept on your device are the ten card names, their directions and your card 2 rule.

Does the page recognise the cards in the photo?
No. This page does not use AI image recognition. You name each card and its direction; the photo is there to pin the positions and float the card names over your real cards so you can check them against the table. The interpretation uses the same engine as this site's tarot reader.

When is the sideways card in position 2 reversed?
There is no single standard. Card 2 lies across card 1, so it has no natural up or down. Some readers always read it upright, some treat head-left as upright and some treat head-right as upright. On this page you say which way its head points, and the page applies the rule you have chosen. Pick one rule and keep it.

Which edge is the head of the card?
The head is the top edge of the picture, where the figure's head and the sky are. On Rider–Waite style cards the number sits at the top and the title banner at the bottom. When the card lies sideways, check whether the numbered edge points toward card 4 (left) or card 6 (right).

What do the coloured lines in the spread mean?
They join positions that are read as pairs in the Celtic Cross, such as 1 and 10 (situation and outcome) or 3 and 5 (root and crown). The colour and dash show the Golden Dawn elemental dignity: the same element strengthens, Fire with Air or Water with Earth support each other, Fire with Water or Air with Earth weaken each other, and other pairs are neutral.

What if I photograph the spread from the querent's side?
Tick “Photo taken from the querent's side” and every card's direction is inverted, because a card that is upright for the reader looks reversed from the opposite side of the table. Pinning works at any angle, since the rotation is computed from the two points you tap.

How accurate is a tarot reading?
There is no scientific evidence that tarot predicts the future. The reader applies traditional reading rules consistently, so use the result as a perspective for reflection, never as a substitute for a doctor, lawyer or financial adviser.
